Kate Daloz is the former director of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Writing Studio at Columbia University, where she also received her MFA. She is a New America Foundation 2024 National Fellow. Her first book, We Are As Gods: Back to the Land in the 1970s on the Quest for a New America (PublicAffairs, 2016) explores the role of privilege in utopian communities. Her new book (Knopf, forthcoming) will expand the story of her grandmother’s 1944 death by self-induced abortion into a 300-year history of reproductive healthcare in America. Daloz’s work has appeared in print and online in the New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and the American Scholar, among other publications. She lives in Brooklyn with her family.
